Magnificent Seven - Genderswap?
This was a challenge over at The Fandom Zoo. It called for us to genderswap three characters.

Fandom: The Magnificent Seven
Warnings: No spoilers, but each of the picspams is 500x500.

Well, I went a little overboard and did all seven members of the The Magnificent Seven. I didn't go so much for looks as for faces, expressions, and the ability to pull off certain attitudes. (So at first glance they might not match...) I hope you enjoy!

Christy (Chris) Larabee

Photobucket

Played by Kristanna Loken

I wanted someone who could be tough, sexy, concerned, and determined. She has definitely got all of that as well as the ability to give a good, strong glare.

Vinita (Vin) Tanner

Photobucket

Played by Michelle Rodriguez

I needed someone who looks like they can handle themselves outside. She had to be a strong presence without ever saying a word, and she needed to give a feeling of competence on sight.

Natalie (Nathan) Jackson

Photobucket

Played by Grace Park

One of the things I love most about Nathan is his expressive face. I needed someone who could express emotions and thoughts with just a look. She also has a sweet compassion to her face which matches his when he's working.

Joni (JD) Dunne

Photobucket

Played by Scarlett Pomers

She had to be young, giving the feeling of being naive without being incompetent. I needed her to have an open expression. She also need to have a sense of mischief hanging around her eyes and mouth.

Bufi (Buck) Wilmington

Photobucket

Played by Marg Helgenberger

I needed someone who is completely comfortable in her skin. She knows her strengths and weaknesses - she makes no apology for who she is. She can be compassionate, tough, and irreverent at pretty much the same time.

Josie (Josiah) Sanchez

Photobucket

Played by Julie Walters

She had to have humor, strength, and be down-to-earth. I needed her to give the feeling of maternal concern as well as the empathy of a counselor. Someone who could turn tough or tender at a moment's notice and who had no problem acknowledging God's sense of humor.

Ezrela (Ezra) Standish

Photobucket

Played by Rachel Weisz

I needed someone with the ability to wear many skins. She has to be sensitive, tough, canny, and surprisingly loyal. She carries herself with a sense of dignity, always aware of appearances, but willing to drop all of that if trouble comes calling.

I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE WITH TERMINATOR :P haven't gotten any further - I'm too busy giggling!

It's so funny. I picked her before I got to the Terminator bit. Once I hit that picture and remembered? She HAD to be Christy! It was fate or something!

It's so funny when things work out like that :D

LOVE Grace Park and Marg Helgenberger casting. Especially Marg - REALLY perfect there, especially the bit about 'comfortable in her own skin'. Buck to a T!

Not so sure about Julie Walters as Josiah. That maybe my personal bias - I adore Ron so much it's hard to see someone else in his place. I'll have to watch some more with Julie Walters in it. Although Molly Weasley's attack on Bellatrix Lestrange is pretty 'old testament'. hmmm. I must ponder this one.

Josiah was THE hardest one. I needed to find an older actress who could be funny, sensitive and a tough broad when need be. Judi Dench came to mind, but I always picture here as a bit too refined for what I was looking for - I needed more earthy. Not easy to find one that REALLY fit...too many of the older actresses are too refined, too delicate, too crabby, too something...

Buck was the FIRST one I did - Marg Helgenberger just FIT.

I've been think about this all day! Still can't figure a good actress for this role. Frankly for Ron Perlman, I could swap a different lady for every roll he plays. Hallmark of a good actor?

AMAZING HOW WELL THAT WORKED TOO.

This is awesome. Great insights into the essential characteristics of the boys/girls. :)

I've seen a lot of genderswap picspams of the Seven and I think I like this one the most because of the way you went after their core characteristics. Grace Park, omg! ♥

As much as I enjoyed them all I was surprised at how easily I could slot Michelle Rodriguez into my head as Vin. She's always been on my list of capable badasses. And she has that single-minded scary focus that Vin Tanner has. Very well done! (And nice job on marrying some of the pics of the ladies to the guys. I'm sure a lot of work went into this.)

Yay! Thanks!

I wanted to highlight the qualities of the guys, not their looks. These are the qualities I try and remember when I write them.

And yeah, Michelle Rodriguez struck me the moment I saw her picture.

Nice job! I am rather gleeing over Julie Walters as Josie Sanchez - great choice!
